I'm a new subscriber. My Dad was a long time subscriber.
My Dad bought N7478H in 1976. For the last 25-30 years, she "Sweet Thang" has been disassembled. My old cropduster Dad "Dirty Bird" passed away in 2022 at 92 years old waiting on her to be put back together. He missed out on seeing her done. In December, I was able to bring her from Arkansas to my hangar home outside of Nashville. In the past, a lot of us have soloed in her and spent tons of time flying around the rice fields of Arkansas. My Dad was generous letting people use her because he remembered being the "boy on the fence" at the airport, watching planes fly. I learned how to land on a curved gravel levee road and on the sand bars of the Arkansas river in her. He had me mooning fishermen out the door while he ran her tires in the Arkansas river. He taught me to fly using a rolled up newspaper and when I was about 5 foot off the ground on takeoff, he would turn from the front seat and beat me with the newspaper. "Realistic Distractions" he would say. Fly the plane no matter what. My Dad did the Grammy Act at local airshows in her. I'm the final remaining pilot in the family and have no idea where she will be after that. But for now, she's with me.
