Of course the best idea is a Schweitzer glider tow hook. This is an inexpensive alternative, and will go with me when next I pick up a Champ or J-4.

The iPad clipped the top of the picture. It says "post" but it could easily be a loop of chain or anything around which the rope could go.

After start, you remove chocks, climb in, buckle up, then just pull the skinny rope until the entire thing is in your lap. You want the pin end of the rope to be sort of smooth so it doesn't hang up on the tail wheel or the post.
