I posted a short while back about my problems with my C-90 powered J3 and to have the engine opened up after 130hrs on a major overhaul.
It was due to metal in the oil/drain magnet. It was too fine for the screen to catch any of it. Turned out to be cam lobe(s) and lifters.
The cam and lifters were reconditioned by Aircraft Specialities Services.

The question I have is why does everyone seem to indicate that a reground cam is never a good choice? Is it because the reman tolerances are just not that good or is it the hardening process? Also do the reground/resurfaced lifters fall into the category as the reground cam? My IA sent the cam and lifters out to them again. I am having second thoughts on weather I should just bite the bullet and get a new cam and lifters. If I go that route it looks like over $2600 for new cam and lifters.
Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
