This may be hopeless, but I thought I'd ask here, among friends.
A buddy has a 180 hp Great Lakes. It had an unfortunate excursion, resulting in the insurance company totalling it. The engine has been inspected, as have the spars, so repairs are more or less trivial from this point on.
However, the constant speed prop and spinner are right at $15 grand - and anyway these things are nose heavy. The 180 engine itself is certificated for fixed pitch, and I am assuming without checking that the wood Sensenich is approved for that engine. The airframe is approved for a 150 hp with metal fixed pitch.
Are my chances slim and none without a hundred grand worth of engineering and testing? Should I bother trying?
