My L-4 is going through a very extensive annual because when I bought it, I felt there were a lot of things deferred the last few years. Anyway one of the things that has been an issue is that the rear lift struts were not replaced when the plane was restored. I just the the punch test using the graph paper and Maule tester IAW SB528D. Everthing looks ok. The forks were replaced and only have about 100 hrs. since they were installed. In fact they still look new. The problem is there is no entry in the log books that show the rear lift struts was treated internally for corrosion. There is no PK screw or rivet that shows it was done. That being said, I will have to do the treatment but I do not want to use Linseed oil or any of the other listed anti-corrosion products listed in Note (b) of the SB. It does say "any alternative conforming to Fed. Spec. TT-S-176D" can be used.

I would like to use something like ACF 50, Corrosion X or Corrosion Block. Does anyone know if these are acceptible lubricants to satisfy the AD?

Also where can I find information on the Fed. Spec. TT-S-176D?
