Hello all,
This may irritate some of you, but I thought I'd toss it out there and see:
How doable would a replica E-2/J-2 be with, lets say, a Jabiru 2200 engine in place of the A-40...but otherwise right to the plans?
I've compared both engines in a cursory way(the A-40 and the Jabiru) and their weights are very similar, and the small size of the 2200 is quite comparable to the original Continental. The Jabiru is 138lbs .vs the Continental's 144lbs. The continental makes about 40hp (-ish) at 2500rpm. The Jabiru does 85hp at 3300rpm. Don't wind it up all the way and you have, may I suggest, very healthy A-40 performance+.
Anyhow, what about the airframe? Anybody out there able to weld up some E-2 or J-2 frames?
The wing-ribs I think may be problematic....are they reproduceable?
Anything else on these early Cubs hard to replicate?
The reason I was thinking in this direction is because alot of folks have talked about the joy of early-Cub flying, and there just aren't alot of them around.
Thoughts?
Now, I'm fully aware of the drama the words "replica" and "reproduction" have on alot of people out there, for TONS of reasons....but I am just tossing this out there, thats all....don't want to start a huge back and forth about the philosophical nuances that this brings up....
(Please nobody rip my head off! haha)
Pete
