After several years of building the major components for my experimental Cub, I am now in process of initial assembly of parts. All of the parts were built to the specs from original Piper plans. Today I am fitting the vertical fin to the fuselage. So essentially I am working with a brand new fuselage, new rudder, and new vertical fin. Everything fits great. I am using the rudder as a jig to ensure the spacing between the hinges on the tailpost and the vertical fin. Here is my question: Before I drill through the tailpost and fin post I would like to know how far up from the bottom hinge is standard layout location for drilling this hole on other Cubs. I realize that the exact location is arbitrary in my assembly, because of the spacing between the hinges is set by the temporarily fitted rudder. But I would like this vertical fin to be interchangeable with other Cubs. I have noted in the past that this drilled hole was located at around a couple of inches below the top of the tail post. I never thought to measure up from center of the tail post hinge when I had the chance in the past. Can anyone tell me how far from the bottom hinge I should drill this hole? And can anybody tell me of their experience with the interchangeability of these two components on other Cubs?
