Happy Holidays fellow Cub Drivers,
The certified restoration of J3 NC3336N continues. Twelve months later we have the engine ready. (We found number four piston's skirt was disintergrating - replaced cylinder). After removing the fabric we found the metal fuselage was good (still had linseed oil in tubing from previous major in '76 - replaced fuel tank, cowl top and bottom, new glass, new dash, keystone overhaul instruments, new rigging wires), wings and control surfaces restored (right metal spar had a basketball size hole in it caused by a giant mouse nest - replaced 1 spar, all ribs, 2 leading edges, 2 wing tip bows and a right wing fuel tank). Anything I did not mention has been replaced new or repainted.
I have reached the point of fabric and paint. We are recovering using the Ceconite process (Nitrate and Butyrate). In getting everything together we are wondering if anyone has an opinion on which Cub Decal to use on the tail fin? The Cub Club has an adhesive and a wet decal available. Attached is a photo of the old wet decal we put on back in '73. It held up pretty well. Has anyone used both and have a preference?
