Carb heat cable friction

Hello everyone. While changing out the carb heat cover plate, I found when putting the new one in that after screwing the plate down that tension was being applied to the cable so that it became almost impossible to slide back and forth.

If I don’t screw the plate in and just let it sit in the slot the cable moves freely. Has anyone else experienced this and if so knows any methods methods of fixing this. Thank you
