Help needed please . I am restoring my 1943 L-4H G-BAET , and have made a new boot cowl to replace a tired and patched original . The patching on the original included a 4 inch repair strip across the rear of the underside of the boot cowl , which was not fastened to the fuselage bottom . I fitted my new cowling from the top down and am really pleased , but I have a gap underneath of around 2 inches at the centre of the U channel. My LAA inspector (British EAA equivalent) thinks the fit should be snug to the fuselage bottom . Is that the case , and if so should the boot cowl be screwed to the underneath of the fuselage U channel? At the moment , the boot cowl is unpainted and the bottom seam is pop riveted,so if I have got it wrong now is the time to fix it!
