AOP
In Remembrance 2023
I was paging through some of the old Cub Clues the other day and came across a reference to a book titled "A Balcony Seat at the E.T.O." by Clyde Beers. I ordered a copy and have just finished it. I recommend it entirely.
Beers was an enlisted man in the Field Artillery and to get out of KP and work details, he applied for and was selected for OCS at Ft Sill. Eventually, he found his way into the back seat of the 179th FA Group's L-4s.
This is an excellent narrative from a man who saw the war from a perspective we don't often read about, the artillery Air OP observer. It offers a great deal of insight into how things were handled, who did what, how missions were assigned, what was involved, etc. If you are interested in the back stage workings of an artillery battalion or group, you should get this book.
