Hello All!

I have a new-to-me A-65 Continental on a J3 I recently purchased. The manual lists full throttle RPM as 2300. I’ve noticed on takeoff, my RPM is probably closer to 2200 RPM.

As cruise speeds develop, if full throttle is maintained, 2300 RPM will be achieved. Anything over 80 MPH, I have to throttle back to keep RPMs from exceeding 2300.

In your experience, is 2200 rpm on takeoff normal? Again, RPM increases as speed increases as is expected. Mags check good on run up and compressions in upper 70’s. Thank you!!
