1941 J-3L Empty Weight??

Original 1170# gross weight. A-65 by STC with metal prop. Cleveland wheels/brakes. Ceconite fabric assuming dope finish.

Empty weight reported as 671#. I’m not that well versed on pre-war J-3s but this weight seems awfully light, especially since almost all Cubs have gained weight over the last 75-80 years…

An acquaintance is considering buying it and I shared some key points to consider and questions to ask. Don’t know if this weight is a red flag or if earlier Cubs were 30-40 pounds lighter than J-3C-65s which all seemed to leave Lock Haven in 695-715 pound range give or take a couple of pounds.
