Just got back from Africa after 5 weeks of work and would like to fly the cub, but it has been snowing outside. When I left for work, there as a small drip from the carb. I bought some gaskets and was going to do a cleaning inside the carb and maybe lap the needle valve. I took off the airbox and stuff and got the leak started again so that I could see where it was coming from. Looks like it is coming out of the main discharge which means the float is sinking, or the valve is leaking. That kind of suckes, but what was really bad was that the carb P/N was A18033A-3. That is a A65 carb and this is a C85 engine. The proper carb number should be 380167. I called the Stromberg specialist and talked to him. price to fix the carb would be $950 plus change over parts and 3-4 weeks. I saw the log book entry when they put the carb on the engine (June 2011), and saw that the AP was Don Swords. I called Don's dream machine and spoke to Don. He said that it looks like they put the wrong carb on. Most people don't know that there are different carbs for different engines. Anyway, Don said to send it to him and he will convert it to a 380167 and restamp it. $450 plus shipping with a 2 day turn around. That is great news as I really want to fly my plane after waiting all this time. I just hope the weather sucks while the carb is out for reconditioning. In the mean time I will continue to work on the plane a bit. I have a new gascolator from Steves Aircraft to install and a 406 ELT.

Will keep you posted.
