I’ve been playing around with placement of top stringers today. My previous stringer shape was way off the correct shape and I want it to conform closely to the plans. The shoulder stringers are straight and the top stringer has one bend, a single radius spanning about 2 arches.
I cut a slot in a hardwood block the same width and depth of the stringer, then filed a radius and slight curve in the bottom of the slot. This worked really well to slowly bump bend the correct radius into the stringer using half inch increments.
I’m now making up new arches and clips to match the stringers. The shape looks great, and exactly to plan...
