Got real stiff last week. First time in 6700 hours, so I assumed a frayed cable. Opened it up - oil and grease on the jack screw was like JB Weld.

Cleaned up easily with WD-40.

Not sure, but I think it may have been my fault - I always squirt oil in there every 25 hours, but I got lazy and hit it with Tri Flow in early November. Maybe Tri Flow reacts with grease and oil? I sure have a lot of model trains in trouble around here if that is true.
