I have a PA-11 with a Scott 3000-A1 tailwheel. The tailwheel works, feels solid, steers well and has not shimmied. For those reasons I want to keep it. I would, however, occasionally benefit from the full swivel abilities of a more modern tailwheel.

I'm thinking about upgrading to the Lang 501A at some not-too-distant point in the future.

Is there any real downside (other than cost) in doing so ?
Any way to replace some parts to convert it to a full-swivel model ? I couldn't tell if it is convertible to a 3-24b and if such parts were available and if going that route was practical.

Any thoughts ?

Thanks
