Fusealge and wings now painted. The assembly has begun after about an 18 year overhaul. The job now is to get the wheels on.

My J4A tailwheel does not match any drawing I have. I have the Univair Parts and Servicing books for the J4 but this spring orientation is not shown. My question is with regards to the spacer between the top spring and the fuselage (pic 1). Should there be a spacer? Without one (pic 2) it does not seem to seat properly.

Or! Is it assembled wrong?

Pics of yours please.

Thanks
