I'm nursing an 85 horsepower J3 back into service after seeing it sit for a bit more than two years.

This CCW tachometer works right up to about 1100 rpm and then goes no higher.

Initially I suspected some issue with fueling or that the actual RPMs might not be getting higher, but taxi tests and static run ups indicate that the engine is making power and appropriate RPMs. I haven't had the prop rpms checked via another source yet.

In situations like this is the cause typically the tach cable or a bad tach itself? Obviously something is going to need to be overhauled or replaced, but which is more likely?
