Well, I pulled a silly stunt today (all was well in the end, the Lord looks after us dumb folks). I landed long, getting stopped about 800 feet from the threshold, turned around to back taxi to a point where I could exit the runway, and saw that a Skylane behind me in the pattern was on short final and had me boresighted. I pored the coals to the J3 in a high speed back taxi in an effort to get to a place where I could pull off the runway before he reached me. Did so, and turned off the runway going at a pretty good clip up a small rise topped by a level spot where we park our planes. Was still focused on the oncoming Skylane -- Mistake. There was a pickup truck parked on the flat where we usually park the planes. I didn't see it till I topped the hill. Got stopped with the right hand lift struts about 2 feet short of the truck. Thank goodness for the stock J3 brakes -- they saved me.

P.S. I know, I know -- feel free to give me flack about my well known opinion that J3 brakes usually aren't needed except for static runup and sharp turns.
