Well, I finally saved enough to get my aviation career rolling. I'm 24 and I guess I fall into the 'young and hungry' category- my end goal is to be working in the aviation industry, whether that means flying caravans for freight handlers or working my way up to the big leagues. It has been a lifetime goal of mine to fly, and the sport pilot rating has made it possible for me to get the ball rolling and build some time while I scrimp, borrow, and save for the later ratings.
After talking with the nice folks at Sunrise Aviation in Santa Ana, CA, I have lined up my first scheduled lesson in their pristine, radio-equipped '41 'clipped wing' J-3. I am excited about this because I have always wanted to learn in a taildragger, because of the demands it puts on your airmanship. I have taken a few flights in a 172, but suspect that my Cub experience will surpass it.
What does the 'clipped wing' designation mean? What type of things should I expect to come across on my first flight in a Cub vs. a trike like the 172?
Thanks all! Look forward to meeting some great folks.
