Lost my "Skull cap" this morning. The nutplate that held the original had been replaced with a riveted nut. Spinner bolt broke from inside the nut and skull cap departed downward taking some paint off the prop. Any suggestions for a better "fix" appreciated.

I know enclosed cowlings depend on the "skull cap/spinner" for directing airflow into and over the cylinders for proper cooling. Since Cub cylinders are already outside with eyebrows "scooping" air, is it necessary to have a Skull Cap or are they primarily for looks?
