An issue I would like everyone to be aware of. This happened to a Cub with a Continental C90, When doing a mag check the engine backfired and then started running rough. When it was shut down and he tried to turn the prop it would not turn. This engine had no starter. Investigation showed that the crankshaft gear that turns the mags broke off some teeth and the broken medal restricted movement. He called COLUMBIAaircraft in pa and they said they just received a 0200 with the same problem. Have never heard of this issue and was wondering what the field experience is out there.
