I am seeking advice from the engine guru's on this board. I've got an A-65 on a J3 (hangared) with slick mags and I run 100LL. I've had no engine issues to speak of in 20 years of operating this fine airplane. The last bit of engine work performed was the installation of chromed cylinders 2 or 3 years ago. The engine ran fine 3 weeks ago, but I had some problems last night (upper 40'sF). The engine seemed to start normally, but it quit after 4 or 5 seconds of sputtering. I continued trying to start it and it seemed like it just wasn't getting enough fuel. I cycled the fuel shut off lever, I tried switching mags, I primed/didn't prime, etc. After about 12 attempts it caught, but then ran quite rough. I took it up to about 1500 rpm and nothing improved (I again tried different mag combinations without any change) and so after about 20 seconds or so of agony I shut her down. Does this sound like fouled plugs, bad gas, carburetor problem, internal engine issue or what? Thanks in advance for your thoughts on the matter.

Mike Y.
