I’m almost hesitant to post this after reading Chuck’s post. It’s got to be really tough to know you’ve made your last Cub flight. It has been 35 years since I last flew a J3. Lots of other stuff in between but no Cub time.

Saturday I swung by Coulter Field (CFD) and noticed a really nice N2S Stearman on the ramp. I struck up a conversation with the owner, reminiscing about a few hours I have in one. I mentioned that I had learned to fly in a Cub but hadn’t flown one in years. He replied, “I’ve got one, would you like to fly it today?” What a question!! OF COURSE!!

We rode over to his T-Hanger, pushed out a nice ‘41 with an 85 Continental. I did a quick walk around, he proped it into life, and I taxied to the active. After a runup, we pointed the nose into the wind and committed aviation. It was like being 16 all over again. The door open, green pastures, blue skies. Man what fun. After about an hour of boring holes in the sky we returned to the strip, made a close pattern and set it on the numbers. I taxied back the fuel pumps and was never happier to part with cash for avgas than I was for that flight.

Thanks Stephen!!
