I'm replacing tubing in the rear of my J2 and have a question about the attachment fittings for the tail brace wires to the lower longerons. My J2 has a thick 1/8th inch strap welded across the bottom of both longeron as shown in the attached picture. Seems to be excessive.

Is it correct to have a strap welded across the longerons or are welded tabs used on the J2/J3s. Also what thickness material - .090 would seem to be plenty. Would like to redo it correctly while I'm replacing tubes.
