J5A serial number 5-3 is apparently the oldest example of the type still in existence. It first flew in March, 1940 and was sold to Aircraft Associates Flying School in Long Beach, CA. She was flown as a trainer in the CPTP. I have been the "caretaker" for about a year now and it is becoming painfully obvious to me that I have too many airplane projects, and too little time. So I would like to see this particular J5 go to someone who will do a quality restoration and then fly her regularly. The airplane is dismantled for recovering, but is complete. I do have an A75 engine and metal propeller which can go with the plane. The airframe is in good shape. Not damaged or rusty. If anyone here is interested, or knows of a group or museum that would be willing to restore and fly this Piper veteran, let me know. I'm not looking to make a profit on this, and transportation is possible as well.
