Since the original thread lost its way (not that it hasn't been worth reading) I figured I'd start a new one just for political updates and discussion. Here's the original first post from Jim.
The Pilots Bill of Rights 2 would allow pilots flying recreationally in a wide range of aircraft to no longer obtain a third class medical certificate. The new bill would allow private pilots to make noncommercial VFR and IFR flights in aircraft weighing up to 6,000 pounds with up to six seats.
There is also a provision making it legal to fly as outlined above without a 3d Class with 180 days of enactment, even if the FAA fails to act. Finally, some teeth which the FAA will likely want to avoid.

Hopefully this one will get off high center, but no hopes of being in place by end of June so I suspect I'll be renewing my Cl III at least once more.
