My buddy and I have identical Legend Cubs. We both run the same type oil. We fly together a lot and turn the same rpm for the same airspeed. In the Summer our oil temps are identical.

So, now Winter comes and I cover the oval hole in my cowl and he doesn't. I put the insulating cover on my oil tank and he doesn't. We flew together today (oat 32f) and we have....you guessed it ...identical oil temps. Much lower than summer, but the same as each other.

I never thought that oil tank blanket did much, but it appears to do nothing. Maybe it keeps the oil warm longer on the ground.
