In Remembrance 2023
Watching some of the You Tube entries about the crash at Windsor Locks in October. Amazing. Apparently the PIC shut down the wrong engine because he assumed the problem was with number 4 and didn't take the time to determine which one was bad. It is thought that maybe both were developing some power. He dropped the gear on downwind and was at maybe 125 mph, ran out of air and hit the approach lights. There was film of it on some of the videos. Turns out he went to full power after he lost control on rollout way below Blue Line (If Blue Line has ever been established for a B-17G) and 1 and 2 pushed the airplane sharply to the right into the tanks. Full power when you've got hangars and large storage tanks 100 yards ahead of you?
