Greetings,
I’m a new lifetime member and new Cub owner. I recently purchased serial number 6398 with a right wing that needs rebuilding. It came with a new spar from Aero Fabricators in Lyons, Wisconsin and I believe it was bought through Wag Aero. It is part no. M9511DF and is a direct replacement for Piper OEM NUMBER 11233. The new spar is three and one half inches shorter than the original. I have looked at the wing drawings and compared the above numbers with the original parts manual and both Wag Aero and Univair. Additionally the lift strut holes on the new spar are seven eighths if an inch farther outboard.
Questions:
1. Did the early Cubs have a longer wing?
2. Although the rear spar appears airworthy, the drag strut holes misalign by up to one inch as I move outboard. Must I purchase a new aft spar to marry up with the front? Not a problem to buy a new aft spar.
3. Must I now rebuild the apparently good (covered) left wing with the new spars in order to have a symmetrical acft?
Thanks in advance.
