This is just a matter of curiosity for me. The J3C-65 I am earning my SPL in weights in at 751.5 lb. That's pretty close to the -1 weight of an L-4 (740 lb.). As I understand it every L-4 left the factory with a dual ignition engine. So a nice glossy finish and required placcards might account for 11.5 pounds.

Someone close-by claims his Superflite covered L-4 is just under 730 lb.

Any ideas about why so many Cubs seem heavier these days? One coat of OD on intermediate grade was likely pretty light, but so is vinyl even with enough Polytone to make water bead.

I know not having 'lec'rics or 'lum'n'm props help.

Do you think the thermoplastic greenhouse is any lighter than finished fabric?
