Just purchased this ol 1940 J-4 Cub Coupe C85 from North Dakota. I have some work to do but I’m eager to get going and get her in the air again. I’ll be making some Posts here and there as to the progress.

Many parts were stolen off of it and the logs were also taken by a spiteful “prospective buyer.” The gentleman that sold the plane to me had agreed to let another fella make payments on the plane in exchange for letting him fly it and eventually purchase. That guy never paid and so the plane didn’t leave the hangar. Welllll I guess the guy came back and got in. He proceeded to steal the prop, the carb/airbox, the exhaust and the logs. He also busted up the floors. I have a name and have hard data on him but that’s another story for another day. (He tried to ferry a C172 and crashed it)

So along comes my sorry butt, just looking for a cheap plane to build some time. I see a great price for a weird chubby cub and I bought it. So after a 56 hour round trip solo, I have a plane.

Before I made the drive to get the plane I managed to track down pretty much everything to get her back up except a carb and Wag-Aero has exhaust backordered. Got scammed out of a few hundred on one carb though. That was fun.

Some of the most help I have received so far has been by getting the FAA to send me a CD. I now have the 337’s the STC’s and pretty much any other piece of paper that ever went to the FAA for the plane. We also found out that it was in the Civil Air Patrol through WW2. So that’s pretty nifty I guess.

I’m going to go out and get this thing all wiped down and cleaned up over the weekend. I stuck the prop on without bolts for a few photos. She ain’t pretty but she’s mine!!

Wish me luck y’all.

P.s. anyone know a friendly A&P/IA in Northern Ohio?
