I was plowing snow this morning, and during the monotony, had a thought and subsequent question. If one does not possess a single engine sea rating, may one legally fly a single engine amphib provided water is avoided? If so is a sticky note placard needed?

I’ll ask this another way… I obtained my initial pilots certification in a floatplane. It had straight floats, but if it didn’t, I could still fly it, so long as I didn’t land on land…

Right?

And do hydraulic wheel skis on a 180 make it complex?

The solitude of winter is a dangerous thing... ;-)
