Wondering if I did this right? I used a standard Cessna antenna, placed it on the right wing root cowling about 3/4 to the rear. I mounted it directly onto the painted metal Cowl. Ran the coax cqble into the cabin from the front space. I tested it today while flying the Cub. No one seemed to be up and no radio com going on. So I texted my son on the ground, he turned on the Cessna radio inside of the hanger to talk. I was circling overhead but our talking did not go well. After I was back near the ground landing we could talk pretty well.
I was wondering if it would have worked better if the Cessna was out of the hanger? Did I connect the antenna correctly (does it need a grounding plate or does the paint need to be removed from the cowling metal)?
I was using my ICOM radio.
Thanks for any assistance.
Glenn
