I’ve been chasing interference since I picked up the Cub last fall. When I’m at my home airport, a Class D with TRSA I get very bad interference when roughly 500’ AGL. Below that the interference goes away. When overflying my city the interference/static gets worse the further away I get from the tower. My tower frequency is 118.1. Tower is able to hear me 5/5 but the static is rough to hear them transmit.

Switching frequencies to 122.750 which we used for air-air the static is a lot less and most of the time non-existent. I could hear and transmit to airplanes clearly as far as 55 miles away.

My antenna is above the windscreen and is a RAMI AV-534 Bent Whip type. Im using a portable intercom and Yaesu FTA-450 Portable. I’ve tried ground the antenna to the frame, swapping radios and intercoms, moving the placement of the radio and intercom. Right now it’s hanging from the cross bars above.
