MORE About Usâ¦â¦â¦â¦..This professional threesome has a solid record of Cub restoration in New England, with 2 recent projects winning Oshkosh awards for J-3 Cubs that both had the late Clarence Witteâs tanks aboard. The decision to produce these cub wing fuel tanks was made for customers who desire to alleviate the traditional 12-gallon front seat âin your lapâ tank, and change their cubs with a very positive operational enhancement, with minimal intrusion on the aircraftâs original appearance.
There is a growing trend to add fuel range to the incredible Cub Family, as customers want to use these historical and economical aircraft to now fly longer distances for shows and fly-ins, as well as to more remote locations on wheels, skis, and floats! The new tanks will hold 12+ gallons , and can extend a typical J-3 range to more than 4 hours now. Full plumbing and fuel selector valve options are included with the STC.
The aluminum tanks will now be laser cut from CAD drawings for the highest possible accuracy, formed with CNC bending and then TIG welded to produce a quality joint with a clean appearance. All products and manufacturing processes will, of course, follow strict guidelines and be PMA approved, pending.
The new owners of this Wing Tank STC for J-3 Cubs will have a demo model and literature at Sun nâ Fun & Oshkosh, Sentimental Journey, and numerous other smaller New England fly-ins and shows. All three are highly experienced ATP pilots, CFIs, and Cub enthusiasts.
Customers can expect the following:
⢠Bi-Plane Investments intends to produce and support the highest quality wing tanks for PiperJ-3 Cubs starting mid-2009; we are taking orders now!
⢠Updated production with Laser cutting and CNC (Computer numerical controlled) bending
⢠ALL tanks tested in accordance with the PMA approval prior to shipment
⢠Detailed and well-written installation instructions and drawings will make mounting and adjusting the tanks a straightforward and clear operation
⢠The affiliated plumbing fuel gauges, and fuel selector valve(s) will be specified and diagrammed as part of the STC.
⢠Our web-sites will have step-by-step photographs (and movies) of the installation process
⢠Bi-Plane Investments offers full wing rebuilds to include installation of the wing tanks and fabric covering (Poly-Fiber System or new Ceconite Star Gloss System) if desired for your Cub.
⢠Continuous Support of our wing Tank products through the Cub Clues Newsletter, Clyde Smith Seminars, and Forums at SNF and OSH.
