Hello Everyone, hoping to get this figured out. I bought a beautifully flying1945 J3 with the Dons Dream Machine engine on it. The engine has less than 200 hrs on it but seems to run hot. The oil temp red line is at 224 and on a hot day here in FL it will creep up to 220. It has never gone above that but in my experience that seems way too hot. I'd much prefer temps between 180 to 200. I'm suspecting the carb may be running too lean?

I am considering replacing the exhaust system and was thinking of installing a simple EGT to get a better idea of what's happening, not that I could do much about it with no mixture. Also have considered going to a carb with a mixture control, but that may be an exercise in futility as I never fly above 2000'.

Anyway, open to all input.

Thanks!

Joe
