WARNING!!! Check the Set Screws NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am adding this to the Legend site, because this is an Engine Problem, That will affect all aircraft running the new Continental O-200 Engines.
This topic is running on the Cub Crafters Forum.
As I reported earlier on Charlies CC11-100, he had a rocker shaft cut through the cover.
Continental has repaired it, and it is back on the aircraft, all is good for now.
Charlies CC11-100 had approx. 65.0 hrs TT.
I just pulled all four rocker covers on Joeys CC11-100, (N977CC) with a TT: of 38.08 hrs. I found no damage to the covers, But I did find all four set screws that retain the rocker shafts LOOSE !!!!
The set screws are located in the center boss, and are screwed down onto the rocker shaft.
The shaft appears to have a very small notch in it for the set screw to set on to retain it.
There is no lock of any type on the set screw, Nor is there any locktite used.
I have only removed the covers at this time, next I will remove the shaft, so I will be able to tell you more as soon as possible.
I am going to file a M&D report on both aircraft. I have already talked to Earl at CC. And
I am calling my FSDO.
