Cockpit spar covers

I'm getting ready to cover the interior on a 46 J-3. Looking at pictures of other J-3's in the forum it looks like there is some kind of metal support under the curved fabric that covers the spar where in enters the bird cage but I don't see it in my parts manual. What do they use?
