The annual Chili Fiesta fly-in at Massey Aerodrome is this Saturday, April 26, 2008. The event is at a beautiful grass field on Maryland's Eastern Shore, and brings out the local folks as well as over 100 aircraft if the weather is good. Last year there were many J3s, and other antiques including some very rare aircraft. It is great fun, with lots to eat and much to see.
From The AutoPilot report: "Four men, Jim Douglass, John Williamson, John Sypherd, and Bill Malpass, had a vision of a place where small taildraggers could fly from a grass strip, where aircraft projects could be painstakingly rebuilt and where the public would feel welcomed back in time to a slower, friendlier world of aviation. That vision is now a reality with the Massey Aerodrome, located on Marylands Eastern Shore.
With help from volunteers, neighbors and the state, the four friends have been making it work since 2001. Some 400 people and 110 aircraft showed up for the Massey Aerodromes Open Hangar party and fly-in last Christmas. More than 125 planes flew in for the fourth spring Chili Fiesta Fly-Inso many that the 93-acre airfield had visiting planes parked in part of the working farm that surrounds it. Visitors have even come from as far away as New Zealand and Nevada. "
Unfortunately, I won't make it this year as we committed to go to the National membership meet of the Model A Ford Restorers Club in PA, before we knew the date for the Chili Fiesta. My wife and I are both disappointed; she really enjoys the folks at that airfield!
