We have a 1946 J3 Cub with a C-85. It has about 200 hrs on rebuilt and
a problem just began not long ago. When going from 1100-1300 rpm, it
stumbles and misses pretty bad. There is a bit of black smoke from the exhaust
but after 1300 rpm, it smooths right out and runs fine. It always starts on first
pull and the primer has just been replaced with one with a shut-off to eliminate
it as a source of the problem. The carb is fairly new and mixture has been adjusted a few
times but the problem remains the same. It appears to be an over-rich condition
but from where? It also idles smooth at 700 rpm. It does it on one or both mags.
??? thanks for any advice
