Black Radio Call Numbers

I have WW II photos that show the radio call numbers painted in both flat black and flat Orange Yellow. Tech Order 07-1-1 dated 06/01/1942 called for the numbers to be painted black on camouflage aircraft and Orange Yellow on non-camouflage aircraft. Flat Orange Yellow was also authorized on camouflage aircraft. So you can take your choice on this one. :)

Since these numbers were most often added in the field that would explain the differences. Also some L-4 aircraft were not in combat zones and were considered training aircraft and would have born the yellow letters.

The photo below was taken in Burma a combat theatre.
