I have always thought that checking the certificates was part of an inspection. Now I am not so sure. I can find no regulation that requires a certificate to be present except when the aircraft leaves the ground.
14 cfr 43 App D appears to not have a requirement to check for an Airworthiness Certificate. Am I missing a regulation somewhere?
